What are Academies?
Academies receive their funding directly from the government rather than the Local Authority. This makes them, in effect, publicly funded Independent schools. They have more autonomy not only regarding curriculum but also with term times. They must however follow the same rules on admissions, Special Educational Needs and Exclusions as traditional schools.

Academy Trusts are responsible for running and managing the school. Therefore the trust employs all members of staff. Some, known as a multi academy trust or MAT, run more than one academy. Many have evolved from converter schools and have inherited their buildings. Some have not been well maintained in the past and the government has ring-fenced funding to allow improvements to be made.

Consulting surveying practices such as Munday + Cramer assess improvement schemes, and support academies in making an application to the ESFA for funding. Additionally, Munday and Cramer offer a wide range of other services which schools of all types may find beneficial.

Business Managers are often within the Senior Management Team as academies must find ways to generate funds of their own. Hiring buildings and sports facilities to local groups and clubs are excellent examples of ways to achieve this.
