New term, new kitchen!

With the start of the new school year, the students at Aldborough E-Act Free School in Redbridge are now enjoying delicious school meals produced on-site. Thanks to a scheme funded through the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) by the EFA, a brand new kitchen facility has been created at the school. As part of the wider Loxford School’s Trust, the free school had previously had hot meals delivered from another of the Multi-Academy Trust’s school for lunchtime. However, the continued success and growth of the trust was placing increasing pressures on the existing production kitchen. The recent introduction of the Universal […]

M+C’s charity sky dive for GOSH

In what seems to be fast becoming an annual event; Architectural Director Phil Ruffle is again tackling a challenge for charity. Following Phil’s [questionable] success with last year’s Movember attempt, he’s now volunteered for a tandem charity sky dive. One of M+C’s regular building contractor’s Davis Construction are organising the event, which will take place on Friday 30th September. Along with staff from a number of other local businesses, Phil will jump at 13,000 and place all his trust in his instructor to open the parachute at the right time! All of the funds raised will go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital’s Children’s Charity […]

The Orsett Show

Munday + Cramer were pleased to support this year’s Orsett Show. The event; held for the 110th time will took place on Saturday 3rd September. The showground, set in 30 acres of Essex countryside just outside of the village of Orsett offers a popular family day-out; attended by just  under 11,000 visitors. The show dates back to 1841 initially. Following a break of a number of years, the ‘modern’ show has run successively from 1895 with the exception of breaks during the two world wars. At 110 years, it is now one of the UK’s longest-running one-day country shows. Organised each year by the Orsett Horticultural […]

Brexit: today’s housing market

Since the UK’s decision at the Brexit polls on 23rd June, the UK and its housing market has been in a state of flux. Rhetoric has continued to flow from the two camps; the UK will either face total meltdown or prosper way beyond the realms of possibility than when within the EU. The housing market has long been one of the country’s most important economic indicators, and yet it still cannot decide where its future lies. Early indications suggest some cooling of the industry. The Halifax House Price Index has shown continued signs of slowing prior to the vote. House sales (including first time buyers) decreased to […]

Condition Survey – Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School

Munday + Cramer are pleased have been commissioned to undertake a condition survey by Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School. This renowned secondary academy in Marlow is the second school in Buckinghamshire to have sought M+C’s services recently. The appointment follows M+C’s recent successes with Beaconsfield High School, where four CIF bids have been secured following an initial condition survey. Condition surveys form the foundation to effective estate and facilities management, enabling school’s to develop maintenance plans, and more importantly; realistic budgets. Looking at the bigger picture; condition surveys should also be used as a starting point for strategic estate development plans. Condition surveys typically include: Current building conditions Costs […]

Heritage training (CPD)

In line with Munday + Cramer’s continued focus on ensuring that staff receive Continuing Professional Development (CPD); staff recently took part in a Heritage Building Workshop at the impressive Cressing Temple Barns, near Braintree, Essex. Alongside M+C’s work within education, the practice sees a significant amount of work undertaken to either listed buildings or within conservation areas. This training was selected to further enhance the practice’s skills and experience within the sector. The day’s course focused specifically on roofing works associated with heritage buildings; the range of historic roof coverings, the problems of decay methods of repair as well as […]

Pearls of Wisdom – Rob Barr on 30 years with M+C

The 16th of May saw the celebration of Rob Barr having spent thirty years with the South Woodham Ferrers-based practice. Munday + Cramer marked the milestone with a morning’s golf with staff and close friends, followed by a local lunch. Rob joined M+C in it’s early days in 1986, following eleven years spent with local authorities including Basildon, Thurrock and Havering gaining experience in building control, maintenance surveying and general building surveying. He then joined the practice, which was then operating predominantly as a developer and contractor as a co-owner; with the remit of developing a technical team to provide technical services in-house. Subsequent years […]
