Facilities management is an incredibly broad term that encompasses a whole host of operational processes for a complex. Overseeing this properly is vital. Facilities management includes the management of buildings and janitorial work. Further to this, it includes the management of facility records, and the keeping of logbooks. Not only that, but it incorporates the security measures and protocols in place at a facility. The team behind a complex’s management draws all the separate strands necessary together, into one slick management package. These services help a facility to run as smoothly as possible. It also better places a facility should anything go wrong.

Five Ways To Improve Workplace Health And Safety Standards

Here at Munday + Cramer, we recently penned a piece on adhering to updated health and safety measures upon returning to work post-lockdown. As National Safety Month rolls on, however, it’s important to be clued into health and safety best practices, more generally, for when the pandemic is firmly in our rear-view mirrors. Working in facilities management, we’ve learned that there are myriad ways in which workplace health and safety can be improved. Some of these may seem startlingly obvious, and yet you’d be surprised at how few workplaces actually implement them. With that in mind, we’ve compiled an overview […]

How To Uphold New Workplace Safety Standards According To Munday + Cramer

With the nation approaching the end of the lockdown, at least provisionally, to which it’s found itself subjected, it seems that there could hardly have been a more appropriate time for this year’s National Safety Month to have come. Despite the Government’s best efforts to allay fears, through the publishing of new official guidance and workplace standards, employers and employees alike remain concerned, and understandably so. Never has such importance been placed on workplace hygiene and safety, nor have the stakes ever been as high should there be a failure to adhere to said standards. If one thing’s for certain, […]

Keeping Compliant For The Lockdown And Beyond

The outbreak of COVID-19 has already led to truly global impacts. These impacts are not only health-related, but are being experienced within the world of economics and in social and cultural sectors as well. What’s worse is that the anxiety we’re all experiencing is only being further fuelled by the lack of certainty surrounding the situation. Uncertainty that politicians are unable to assuage, try though they might. We can be sure of certain things, however: this pandemic will eventually pass, life will go back to a semblance of normality and as with everything, life will go on. Unfortunately, beyond those […]

The Intricacies Of Facilities Management

Facilities management (FM) is an essential, yet lesser-known facet of ‘facility’ operations that is prevalent across every sector throughout the world. It’s especially important within the commercial, educational and residential sectors. Traditionally, FM has been shunted down the list of a business’ priorities and building issues are dealt with as and when they arise usually by an office manager or administrator. However, it makes shrewd business sense, to outsource a business’ FM needs to an external, specialist company such as Munday + Cramer in order to make the crucial process a priority. This blog will go into a little more […]

The Outbreak Of COVID-19 & The Relevance Of Thorough Facilities Management

The global outbreak of Coronavirus (also known as COVID-19) has become huge news over the past couple of months. Whilst it originally broke out in China’s Hubei province, the virus has proceeded to spread the world over. There have now been confirmed cases in six of the world’s seven continents – Antarctica, unsurprisingly, is the only exception. The UK has not been exempt from this outbreak. The number of confirmed cases across the United Kingdom is increasing daily. At the time of writing, there have been 18,083 people tested. Of this number, 17,968 returned negative tests, whilst 115 people have […]

RICS Issue Facilities Management Guidelines

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in conjunction with the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) have issued a professional statement, offering guidance around Facilities Management procurement. In addition, the existing code of conduct will be amended for FM providers, and all RICS regulated surveying practices will need to adopt these new standards by October 2018. Raising Standards The RICS statement offers guidance and support to professionals who are looking to outsource their FM requirements for the first time, or are engaging in a re-procurement process. The FM sector is highly competitive, with a real split between providers who operate […]

Asbestos Management for Schools

Asbestos has once again become a hot topic for schools. The Education Funding Authority (EFA) has recently asked schools to complete their ‘Asbestos data collection’ survey. This survey follows wide criticism that the EFA was not able to quantify the extent of the problem. The Property Data Survey Programme didn’t pick up on this issue despite its scale. As such, current estimates suggest 75% of the UK’s school estate contains Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs). Worryingly, the expenditure on removal of ACMs by Central Government has slowed with no mass-removal programmes currently afoot. Managing Asbestos Most of us appreciate the risk of Asbestos to health, but many are still unsure on […]
