Phase 2 School-Based Nursery Capital Grant: 100% Success Rate

Back in September 2025, the government announced the second phase of the school-based nursery capital grant.

As part of the government’s aim to give every child quality provision, schools were invited to bid for up to £150,000 funding from a £45 million pot to create a further 300+ new or expanded school-based nurseries. The new nurseries will open from September, creating over 6,000 additional childcare places for children across the country, on top of the up to 6,000 already being delivered from the first phase of the programme.

Our 100% Success Rate

Yesterday, the government announced that Phase 2 of the school-based nursery funding scheme will help 331 schools open or expand nurseries across the country. Munday & Cramer are proud to share they achieved a 100% success rate with schools who applied during this phase of the scheme. Many of the new nurseries will benefit deprived areas, providing vibrant childcare facilities whilst helping parents return to work.

What’s Next: Phase 3

From May, the programme will move to a locally led model, with councils, rather than schools being invited to propose plans for new places in communities with the greatest need. Phase 3 of the school-based nursery funding grant will run from 2027 through to 2030.
