A breakdown of CIF funding uses from the experts
CIF, also known as the Condition Improvement Fund, has long provided the education sector with vital funding. Recognising the damage of down time and the knock-on effect this can have on learning, the ESFA provide schools with the perfect solution. The real question, however, surrounds CIF funding uses. What can this financial support be used for?
CIF Funding Uses
CIF is used for a variety of different projects, where these will significantly improve the condition of an educational facility. This scheme helps schools avoid closure due to structural issues.
The CIF guidelines for their most recent round splits projects into three different categories. These are:
- Condition Projects
- Condition with Expansion Projects
- Expansion Projects
Condition projects include the replacement of priority components such as boilers, fire doors, structural elements, safety alarms, roof coverings, and asbestos removal.
In some instances, condition upgrades may require additional space. In these circumstances, applicants will fall under the ‘Condition with Expansion’ project category. These applications are only accepted if the proposed GIFA is at least 10% larger than it was previously.
Lastly, projects that fall under the ‘Expansion’ category must address overcrowding issues. Only a small amount of CIF funding is allocated to this type of project and there is a lot of criteria that needs to be met in order to be eligible. With this in mind, it pays to work with a credible bid writer like Munday + Cramer who can provide further guidance on CIF funding uses.
The Next Round of CIF
We’re still yet to hear anything more on the next round of CIF. This being said, this scheme has run many successful rounds and we expect to know more towards the end of 2023. This will likely detail new CIF funding uses, along with a different focus. The best way to keep up to date with news about the Condition Improvement Fund is right here on our blog.
