Decarbonisation

As part of the Government’s plans to reduce the carbon emissions from public sector buildings by 75% by 2037, and Net Zero by 2050, a number of funding schemes have been introduced to support this. To date, over £2.5bn has been provided to public sector organisations to undertake works across property estates to support this reduction in emissions. The phase 5 of the Low Carbon Skills Fund (LCSF) and phase 4 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) are now available to support public sector bodies achieve their net zero ambitions.

Depending on your current building infrastructure, you may be eligible for grants or subsidised loans to implement changes to reduce your carbon footprint under Decarbonisation. This could include improving energy efficiency of your buildings or upgrading to renewable energy sources, installing heat pumps, solar PV, solar thermal or any another form of naturally replenished resources. Benefits include:

Cost Saving
Implementing low carbon technologies can significantly reduce energy bills over time, freeing up resources for other educational priorities.
Environmental Impact
Embracing sustainable practices not only reduces carbon emissions but also sets a positive example for students and the wider community, fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.
Future - Proofing
Investing in decarbonisation now ensures your estate remains resilient in the face of evolving regulations and market trends, future-proofing your operations for years to come.

As experienced specialists in securing government funding, Munday + Cramer can handle all aspects of the preparation of bids and managing the application process for Decarbonisation measures including both the Low Carbon Skills Fund and the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

Low Carbon Skills Fund

A Decarbonisation Plan is required to enable an organisation to access the main Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. The Low Carbon Skills Fund, delivered by Salix on behalf of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, is aimed at helping public sector organisations to engage the specialist and expert advice and skills required to create a robust heat decarbonisation plan and/or detailed designs to prepare for heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency works (for use in any application to secure PSDS).

A recent award of Government funding directly to Munday + Cramer has enabled us to dramatically reduce the costs of creating a Decarbonisation Plan. Utilising world-leading technologies, we are offering our clients the advanced opportunity to secure our innovative approach to the development of a Decarbonisation Plan as part of the Low Carbon Skills Fund.

Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme

Phase 4 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme offers financial assistance in the form of grants and loans to organisations within the public sector. Designed to support projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions from heating systems and improving energy efficiency measures. The funding allowance of £1.17 billion for the public sector has been made available for the public sector decarbonisation for those with the best value of money with the most direct carbon emission reductions.

Numerous technologies exist which are eligible for funding include energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, PV solar panels, LED lighting upgrades and smart building management systems. These innovations not only enhance building environments but also contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.

What Does a Good Decarbonisation Application Look Like?

Major bid applications such as Low Carbon Skills Fund and the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme require a high level of detail to ensure their success. Often, the level of information required for collation (comprising fabric and engineering survey details and data) and illustrating the business case can bamboozle, which is why M+C have built a highly-focused approach to developing this core data to assist with applications and the execution of long-term strategic plans. Working with all our specialists, we can accurately collate and distil the necessary data required to submit a comprehensive, successful bid which is aligned with all of the key bidding priorities.
