Benyon Primary is a popular Primary Academy located in South Ockendon, Thurrock. As an Academy, Benyon Primary receives funding for capital maintenance or expansion works via the Academies Capital Maintenance Fund (ACMF), now known as the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) from the Education Funding Authority.

As such, M+C were tasked with assessing the school’s facilities and developing suitable bid applications for works requiring capital funding in line with the requirements of the fund.

A range of toilets around the school were identified for refurbishment, based upon their condition; which in some cases presented significant Health and Safety challenges and a high risk of closure without remedial work being undertaken. Naturally the bid focused on the alleviation of these issues, as well as the reduced ongoing maintenance costs associated with these facilities.

The funding application also allowed for an element of space-planning and re-organisation of the areas surrounding the toilets to make better use of space for classroom storage and day-to-day facilities.

A comprehensive design and works package was then developed and delivered, working with the successful contractor (Forum Contracts) to put in to place a scheme and programme that minimised impact on the school whilst ensuring cost-certainty within the capacity of the funds allocated.
