Following the merger of adjacent infant and junior schools; Fairhouse Primary School were looking to undertake a range of improvements to help day-to-day activities within the new single school. Amongst the improvements required, was a new route for infants to access the dining hall. The existing route was circuitous, and in inclement weather meant that all children needed rain-wear for a short journey.
To circumvent this, Munday + Cramer investigated a range of options for the school, and settled on the provision of a new walkway with canopy. The covered walkway was arranged to directly link the infant area of the school with the dining hall. This provides a quick, covered route enabling easy access/egress for the children, whilst maintaining the separate play areas for the different age groups.
As part of the overall scheme of works at the school, a range of safeguarding measures including new fencing and improvements to the car-parking were also incorporated.
A full specification for the works was developed for the procurement process. The necessary Planning Permissions were also sought by Munday + Cramer. Local contractor Firmco Ltd. were appointed following the tender process. The scheme was successfully delivered on a phased basis to minimise the impact on the school.
