Gable Hall School is a fast-growing, and increasingly popular Secondary School and Sixth Form Centre serving the Corringham area. As part of the school’s growth and expansion, and allied to a re-branding exercise for the school, a new ‘statement’ front entrance was planned to provide the school with a smart new focal point.
The existing entrance suffered a convoluted route to reach it, and didn’t provide any visual impact to reflect the school’s ambitious plans for the future. The design brief therefore centred heavily on creating a highly visible statement for the school to project in to the community and beyond.
Practically, to support the growth of the school the design also had to make better use of existing facilities as well as provide new office and meeting room accommodation for staff and visitors.
To meet the design brief, a new entrance was designed featuring a modern curved glazed frontage that incorporated a fully glazed atrium.
The resultant reception area benefits from a very high level of natural light and airy ambience. Full air-conditioning has been provided throughout the new facilities to ensure the comfort of staff and visitors.
In addition to the reception area, significant new office accommodation has been created, along with new meeting rooms. The surrounding existing offices were also given a facelift in order to maintain the fresh new look, along with full landscaping to complete the scheme.
Despite the complex nature of the steelwork, the school remained operational throughout the course of the works.
“The new entrance to the school really serves to tell the local community who we are and place us on the map.”
