Residential Architects: Design Trends for 2023

Now we have settled into 2023, many of you will be thinking about the improvements you want to make to your home over the coming year. Following the trends set by residential architects is a great way to get inspiration. From interior design tweaks to home extensions, you’re likely to need a little creative direction. To help you on your way, here are a couple of key trends our architectural team predict are going to be big this year…

Interior Trends for 2023

More is more

In comparison to that of previous years, it’s expected that maximalism is going to be a key interior design trend throughout 2023. For example, walls with loud patterns and over-ornamentation. As the name would suggest, this is the opposite of minimalism and refers to decorating in excess. In other words, more is more!

Be bold

In addition to maximalism, it’s also predicted that bold colours will be a key feature in interior design for 2023. Interiors are taking a big step away from the typical neutral colour scheme that we’re all used to! We can expect to see a lot of funky patterns and the use of tactile materials.

Sustainability

Although the shift to greener designs has been a heavy focus over the last few years, in 2023, sustainability has become more of a need than a want. Homeowners and residential architects alike are expected to continue their work to create more eco-friendly solutions this year.

Exterior Trends

Fabric-first thinking

The cost-of-living crisis has already begun affecting the majority of the UK population. Naturally, this means that a common trend for 2023 is expected to be a fabric-first approach. Residential architects are more considerate when selecting materials to improve performance and reduce energy consumption.

Outdoor living

Although the weather here in the UK isn’t always warm and sunny, our residential architects predict that in 2023, outdoor living areas will be a key focus. From built in pizza ovens and barbeques to integrated seating areas, alfresco dining is on the rise!

Bringing back the industrial style

Industrial architecture rose in popularity between 1914 and 1945. This style usually incorporates rougher materials such as exposed steel, concrete, and wood. Brick is another example. The revival of the Industrial style has been happening for some time now. In 2023, however, this is set to become even more prevalent.
