M+C’s second Chartered Architect

RIBA Architect Accreditation

There are celebrations in the M+C offices this week as James Atkinson became the practice’s second RIBA chartered architect. James joined M+C as a graduate architect in 2008, and has been working towards chartered status since then. The accreditation process is both lengthy and in-depth, culminating in a professional interview which took place this week.

M+C director, and head of our architecture department Phil Ruffle, himself a RIBA chartered architect, supported James through the process. He took the lead in James’s professional development and was able to offer the benefit of his advice and personal experience.

M+C are a practice which work across a wide range of sectors including residential, ecclesiastical, education etc. Because of this, James was able to gain plenty of project-based experience on his route to professional accreditation. Phil Ruffle says “All of us at M+C are extremely proud of James. RIBA accreditation sets him apart as the cream of the crop among British architects, and he worked incredibly hard to achieve it. Furthermore as a practice, our culture of developing our people continues to bear fruit and we couldn’t be happier. We all wish James the best for a long and successful career at M+C”

RIBA Chartered Architect

Further to James’s success, M+C intend to pursue accreditation for the practice as a whole. As with personal accreditation, this is a stringent process with lots of components. The practice has been working towards this for some time. Phil Ruffle says “M+C have long been working towards practice accreditation with RIBA, and we now meet the full criteria to make our submission. Our clients already recognise us as a practice with outstanding commitment to quality and reliability. Not only will we be fulfilling a long-term business goal, but accreditation also will provide those clients with additional confidence.”
