Munday and Cramer

Education

Munday + Cramer have a great deal of experience of working with schools and academies. The education sector is continuing its revolution, with schools moving from the traditional model with many converting to academy status. It is anticipated that just over half of current non-academy schools plan to convert by 2022 and as such, will enjoy greater autonomy as well as additional responsibilities. As well as Academies, Munday + Cramer also have experience of working with Free Schools, Voluntary Aided (VA), Voluntary Controlled (VC), Foundation/Trust schools, and Independent Schools.

A whole suite of services is available to support schools and the wider education sector; architectural design and planning, project management, building surveying, facilities management and support in gaining bid funding for various streams.

Our extensive education experience means that our clients benefit from a consultative and highly knowledgeable approach. From initial design, through to project completion, our aim is to make the process as seamless as possible. For example, our project management department schedules the works carefully to make use of school holidays wherever possible to minimise the impact on learning. However where working on a live site is unavoidable, we are careful to take timetabling constraints into account, and adhere to strict safeguarding procedures.

Education and Facilities Management

In addition to extraordinary projects, many of our school clients rely on our facilities management service to complete a schedule of planned maintenance and upgrade works. Whether it’s facilities management in Essex, Kent or London, Munday + Cramer caters to all. We do this through completing regular condition surveys which form the basis of the school’s asset management plan. In addition to this, we look after any planned or reactive maintenance issues which may arise, removing the hassle and worry and enabling school staff to concentrate on the students. Furthermore, it is becoming more common that schools are seeking ways to generate income from their buildings. Munday + Cramer provide support with this by assessing the school’s buildings and sports facilities and using the benefit of our experience to enhance the school’s revenue generation activities.

Services included within our facilities management operation include:

  • Compliance services
  • Planned maintenance
  • Reactive maintenance (including 24/7 helpdesk services)
  • Energy services including ESOS compliance

Funding

There are a number of ways in which schools can fund their building projects. They can, of course, self-fund from their annual budget allocation, or can alternatively apply for grants. Munday + Cramer can assist clients with securing funds via a number of different schemes. This is dependent on your organisation type and the type of project you are going to be building. These include:

  • CIF (Condition Improvement Fund)
  • LCVAP (Local authority Co-ordinated Voluntary Aided Programme)
  • DFC (Devolved Formula Capital)
  • Healthy Pupils Capital Fund.

Munday + Cramer have a proven track record of helping schools prepare their applications for funding with a consistently high level of success. In excess of £50 million has been secured for academy schools with the Condition Improvement Fund alone. Success rates are regularly twice the National average, giving schools the very best chance of success. With such a surfeit of educational establishments in the south-east that require work, securing successful bid applications in Essex, Kent and London requires the touch of an experienced practice, one like Munday + Cramer’s.
