St Mark’s West Essex Catholic School is a successful mixed Catholic school for pupils ranging from Year 7 to Year 13. The school occupies a significant site including some 12 acres in close proximity to Harlow Town Centre. The site comprises a number of blocks built throughout the past fifty years centering around the School Chapel. Naturally, the collection of buildings offer a selection of traditional teaching spaces as well as modern facilities built within more recent years.
With a range of ageing buildings, a large number of the existing timber window casements were beginning to fail across the school, prompting a major window replacement programme to install new uPVC windows throughout.
The scheme presented a major challenge to both the school and the contractor, due to the sheer number of windows being replaced. As such, the works were phased, with a significant element of the works being delivered successfully during term-time.
Works were phased to ensure that minimal impact was made on day-to-day teaching operations throughout the school, with temporary classrooms being used to accommodate displaced classes.
“This major scheme required significant planning in order to ensure that such a large project that impacted the whole school could be completed with minimal disruption.”
