A constantly growing, and successful school; Corringham Primary School suffers the age-old need of requiring more new classrooms! Part of the Stanford and Corringham School’s Trust, Corringham Primary has seen significant improvement in recent years, buoyed by increasing numbers of pupils. This growth has placed pressure on space on the infant site, and the scheme to provide a new classroom and extension to an existing classroom provided a chance to increase footprint. This scheme swiftly followed the provision of a new servery for the kitchen; completely re-modelling a major area of the infant school.

Following the re-configuring of the existing servery, attention was turned to the provision of a new classroom. The new classroom would be located within a large recess of the existing footprint. The infill extension would then provide a full-sized new classroom for at a comparatively low cost and quickly. Alongside the new build, an existing adjacent classroom was also extended to meet current space requirements set out in BB99.

Whilst simple in construction terms; with block walls and an extension to the flat roof system, the scheme required significant detailing to marry up the new elements. To provide a classy finish, Western Red Cedar cladding was used to give a contemporary look. New DDA access ramps were also provided to aid access to the new classrooms.
