As a popular and growing school located within the regenerated and thriving Docklands area of East London, Britannia Village Primary School are constantly facing the challenge of providing facilities to meet the needs of an ever-changing curriculum. Given the constraints facing this area, developing a solution that would be successful in terms of its provision and against rigorous planning limitations posed a significant challenge to Munday + Cramer.

In order to rise to these challenges, Munday + Cramer assessed the whole of the site, in order to develop a suitable plan that would integrate well in to the existing school facilities. As such, a highly-flexible single classbase was designed as a standalone building within an existing courtyard area.
The design was considered with the future in mind; integrating a spacious kitchen facility as well as dedicated washroom facilities within an easily-segregated area.

The new classbase was also designed to offer a pleasant, airy environment, with open ceilings providing a real sense of space. Externally, the building incorporated interesing architectural detail to the roof and eaves to mimic the surrounding buildings. Hard landscaping was also undertaken to complete the scheme.

The scheme was developed and implemented wholly by Munday + Cramer; appointing main contractor MT Build to undertake the works following a competitive tender process. MT Build delivered the works within a compact programme on a tricky site with a high degree of success.
